Registration for the Methow Valley Nordic Ski and Methow Valley Biathlon teams is scheduled for 5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 21, in the Liberty Bell High School cafeteria.
Leslie Hall, program director and head coach for the ski team, said the informational meeting will last about one hour. The biathlon team registration will be from 5 to 7 p.m., according to Betsy Devin-Smith, head coach.
The ski program is open to all young people ages six through 18 who want to ski for outdoor fun and/or on a competitive team. Scholarships are available for equipment rental and team fees. Forms are available on the program’s updated website at www.methowvalleynordic.com
Participants are divided into age appropriate teams with tailored workouts. Hall said kids 11 and younger will start once-a-week dryland practice on Tuesday, Nov. 5. “Older kids will practice more as it fits for them,” she added.
The annual Thanksgiving Camp at Silver Star in British Columbia will give skiers ages 12 and up a chance to practice on early season snow. The camp is scheduled for Nov. 27-Dec. 1.
Hall is hoping on-snow practice can start in the Methow Valley on Dec. 3. “If there isn’t skiing locally, we will continue to dryland train until there is [snow] with most kids practicing Tuesday and Thursday afternoons,” she said. Skiers who are interested in more training will practice more. |
