Housing Crisis

Post by McDonkey » Mon Nov 22, 2021 2:00 pm

The Methow currently has a housing crisis. It isn't exactly a new thing, nor was it not predicted. But it's currently affecting many families here in our valley. If we're to remain a sustainable, inclusive community something's got to give.

This is a problem that plagues all sorts of working folks. Carpenters, teachers, baristas, nurses, cooks, business owners... Chances are we all know someone affected by a lack of housing or a dearth of housing security. The town of Winthrop has already declared a state of emergency regarding housing.

Tomorrow the Twisp council meets and will be discussing housing. I'd like to encourage folks to send an email to the council letting them know y'all support emulating Winthrop and declaring a housing emergency and looking for pathways towards mitigating this issue.

Please email Randy Kilmer, Twisp Clerk/treasurer;

Thanks
