Dog chasing deer

I was hiking near Gunn Ranch this afternoon when a deer came running around a corner at full speed and missed me by only a few inches. Right on its heels was a dog which looked like a rottweiler. I yelled and the dog gave up the chase and ran back toward Gunn Ranch Road. I didn't see the dog again, nor any humans.
In Washington it is a misdemeanor to fail to prevent one's dog from chasing or harassing deer (RCW77.15.240). Besides the legal issue, it is not good for the deer. Calories burned now mean fewer stored calories later in the winter and increased risk of starvation, disease, and death.
Dog owners, please be responsible and keep your dogs under control!
Thank you, Alan Watson
