Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced the east closure point of the North Cascades Highway has moved seven miles closer to Mazama from Silver Star Gate due to recent snow accumulation.
According to a WSDOT e-newsletter, this usually happens earlier in the season and results in a longer trek for non-motorized recreational backcountry enthusiasts.
At this point, officials do not anticipate an early start to spring snow removal. They plan to send an avalanche team to make an assessment in late February or early March.
