Local photographer Carolyn Edson is finding success this year in publications.

Her photograph of a wild paint stallion in the Steens Mountains has been published on the cover of ‘Back in the Saddle’ catalog: 257,000 copies. The photo will also remain on their website for about three months, she said.

The same image of the stallion won an award in the equine division of the ‘Cowboys and Indians’ magazine’s photo contest.

The June issue of ‘Trailblazer’ magazine used another of her horse photographs to illustrate a story.

Edson said she got serious about photography and turned professional about five years ago, and her work has been selling for about four. She focuses on wild horses and old homes and homesteads, but is also drawn to clouds and scenery.

Edson sets up a booth at the local farmers’ markets to sell her works on canvas, as well as marketing from the internet. People can find her photos electronically by Googling wlplittlebitred.smugmug.com, she said.

Her recent broader exposure has already resulted in the sale of a 24 X 36 inch canvas. A woman called the catalog company to find out who took the cover photograph, and they connected her to Edson.

Edson has lived in the valley since her family moved here in 1968 when she was in junior high school. She laughingly said that she has finally qualified as a local.
