Hazel Kikendall faithfully wrote in her diary for more than sixty years. When she ran out of
room to record events in the allotted space, she turned the dairy and wrote sideways over
top of what was already on the page.
“Mom’s down with flu. Home early by the Mazama bus. Ed and D nailed on barn floor. Bob
on trap line.” says her entry for January 6, 1953.
“She kept a daily diary from 1932 until she died in 1996. She was 88 years old: the last year
has some days she forgot,” said her son, Duane Kikendall, who still resides here. Hazel’s
daughter, Annetta Wilson, has the diaries and shared these photographs with the Grist.
