Methow Valley School Board

Methow Valley School District #350 serves families living between Gold Creek and Lost River whose children are being educated at Methow Valley Elementary School, Liberty Bell Junior and Senior High School, the Independent Learning Center’s alternative high school, or in the home schooling program. The school district’s five school board members, elected for four-year terms, are legally responsible for the district’s policies. They adopt budgets, approve curriculum and hire the superintendent. They are not paid for their work.

The board meets during the school year the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 5:30 p.m. during the school year in the Methow Valley Elementary School boardroom, 18 Twin Lakes Road, Winthrop.

  • Students enrolled: 575
  • Teachers employed: 42
  • Cost to educate each student: $10,900 per year
  • Paid by the state: $6,815 per year, including transportation
  • Total operating budget for this school year: $6.7 million
  • Funded by the state: 63 percent of total budget
  • Source of additional funding: 25 percent local levy, 9 percent federal funds, 3 percent grants
  • Graduating seniors who get additional education: 80 percent
  • Students who drop out before graduation: 5 percent
  • Students qualifying for free or reduced-cost lunch: 51 percent
  • Size of the school district complex: 110 acres.
